Students of the AGH University of Science and Technology together with
foreign students can incorporate subjects chosen in English within
their degree programmes.
Ambitious Students of the AGH University of Science and Technology!
Try to complete at least a small part of your degree programme in
English without the need to go abroad.
One, two, or maybe three subjects? You will accumulate more points for
them than you would for their Polish equivalents,
as well as testing to what degree you are ready to function in an
international professional environment within your area of speciality.
If you think that you are able to acquire knowledge not only through
your first language but also in English then we will increase
the University's offer in this area. The University authorities as well
as those of the faculties will attempt,
in conjunction with a group of experienced lecturers, to help you in
this matter. Being invested with the power of the Rector of the
AGH University of Science and Technology,
Professor Antoni Tajduś, to act as his representative in matters of
foreign language degrees I have the greatest of satisfaction to convey
to you information about the inter-faculty programme entitled:
The University Base of Subjects in English.
The aim of the Programme is the creation for Polish students of a
flexible proposal for the supplementing of degree programmes,
perfecting the level of an essential knowledge of specialist English as
well as the creation of a subject base which would be constantly
offered to foreign students studying at the AGH University of Science and
Technology within the framework of international programmes chiefly the
LLP Erasmus programme.
The base would constitute a dozen or so subjects, the first list of
which has been established and recommended by the Advisory Board for
International Studies at AGH-UST. The list starts with three subjects:
Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry constituting a somewhat abridged and
general form of these rudimentary subjects and which should in
principle constitute something for those students who previously have
passed the full version of these subjects in Polish. All subjects will
be taught exclusively through the medium of English.
Subjects will be taught across the entire University and will be
available for students of all faculties at the AGH University of Science
and Technology including foreign students engaged in free degree
programmes of study within the framework of the LLP Erasmus programme.
Details of the Programme and the conditions for its realisation are
contained in the Rector's Ruling no 25/2008 which may be viewed at the
bookmark DOCUMENTS on www.intstudies.agh.edu.pl
Below are brief indicators for those students who are seriously considering participation within the programme, which is free.
What does one have to do to participate and pass one or several subjects conducted in English?
- Acquaint oneself with the list of subjects on offer within the Programme (bookmark SUBJECTS on www.intstudies.agh.edu.pl ).
- Examine the subject content (syllabus).
- Check whether the given subject can be accepted within the programme of your degree course as a fundamental, major, specialist or simply an optional subject.
- Check if the recommended quantity of ECTS points is in accordance with that accepted at your home faculty.
- In the case of doubts contact the person conducting the subject (bookmark LECTURERS).
- Do not approach the relevant Dean or Vice-Dean for your degree course with a request to obtain permission for the subject selected to be
incorporated within your degree programme. Requests for the acceptance of your choice will be automatically directed to the relevant person.
- Register as a programme participant in the given subject (bookmark REGISTRATION).
- You will obtain information on your email address as to the launch of the subject (the minimum number of students required to run a subject is 10) and you will be invited by the lecturer to arrange class times.
- The times of classes will be confirmed with the person running the course at an organisational meeting (see bookmark MESSAGES).
In the case of questions or doubts please contact the base administrator (bookmark CONTACT > Information about subjects).
I trust that the programme will meet, during the course of the current
winter semester 2009/2010, with interest on the part of ambitious
students of the AGH University of Science and Technology studying in their
field, as well as on the part of foreign students.
In the name of the Authorities of the AGH University of Science and
Technology, the Advisory Board for International Studies at AGH-UST, as
well as my own, I wish you bold decisions and success in their
realisation.
